Local Interior Design Icon Ends Her ReignFlorence Cooper Dies at Age 91 February 2, 2010 By: Diana Augspurger

When Florence Cooper opened her shop on Elmwood Avenue in 1967, she had no idea that it would lead to local "icon" status- a label given her by her peers. Hard work and determination never paid off so well as it did for Mrs. Cooper who moved her studio 7 times during the 35 years she was in business- building a reputation for fine furniture and sophisticated accessories as she grew her business. Long known for her love of red dining rooms and classic English interiors, Mrs. Cooper, nevertheless, always designed for her client, rarely leaving a personal stamp on her work. She was well respected for her commitment to quality, her high ethical standards and her forth right business attitude. Her wit and capacity to embrace her competitors will be greatly missed by all but especially those who she mentored during the course of her long career. The IDA will be establishing a community memorial garden which will recognize the talents of all it's fallen members.
